Sesame Honey Chicken

Sesame Honey Chicken recipe. My sesame honey chicken recipe is quick, tasty and easy enough to cook on a weekday. Chicken pieces are coated in seasoned cornflour, fried until crisp and then tossed in a sweet and salty sauce with honey and sesame seeds. I’ve served it with broccoli too but this can be left out or changed for any other green vegetable – green beans, pak Choi or mange-tout would be nice!

Difficulty Level: Home Cook

Ingredients:
  • 2 chicken breasts, cut into similar sized chunks
  • 3 tablespoons cornflour
  • Teaspoon each of five spice, garlic powder and white pepper
  • Salt
  • Sunflower oil, for frying

For the Honey Sesame Sauce:

  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar and sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • Teaspoon white pepper and rice vinegar
  • Sesame seeds

To serve:

  • Steamed broccoli
  • 2 spring onions, finely sliced
  • White rice
Method:
  1. Add the cornflour and seasonings to a bowl with a grind of salt. Toss the chicken pieces to coat thoroughly.
  2. Add about an inch of sunflower oil to a sauté pan and heat to 200C.
  3. Add the chicken pieces in batches and fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Drain on kitchen paper.
  4. Remove the oil from the pan and add the sauce ingredients. Simmer over a medium low heat for 5 minutes. Add the chicken pieces, a couple tablespoons of sesame seeds and the steamed broccoli and then turn the heat to high. Bubble for a minute or two just to combine.
  5. Serve the Honey Sesame Chicken in bowls with fluffy white rice and top with the spring onions and some more sesame seeds.
